Almighty Fic Index of DOOM.

Okay, so since I realized that the amount of fics I have in my LJ has increased surprisingly (and not just because of Fanfic100), I decided to do something I've seen in a few other journals: Give you a post where all of them can be found with title (plus link), summary and short additional info such as pairing or content warnings. Also, all of them are posted in correct reading order, not necessarily writing order and I decided to break them up by category, so here we go:

Yay, it's gardening talk time again \o/ (in case anyone's been wondering: yes, there are other things going on in my life than gardening and being annoyed by Tumblr, and we'll come to that later. Maybe. At some point. If I feel like it.). Not much has been happening except plants growing and/or being destroyed by pigeons but there are a few notable (for a hobby gardener, anyway) things happening, as well.

Yay, new plant pictures! Aren"t you all excited? (also, not dial-up friendly, as usual)Collapse )

I haven't deleted my Tumblr blog. Yet.

I'm thinking about it, though. And here's why.

In my last post, I hinted at having issues with Tumblr that went so far as to closing the tab for my dash (and still not having reopened it) and at dedicating a post to those issues. So since I should be doing a lot more things that are a lot more important, I chose today to write down some of those thinky thoughts.

That became longer and ranty-er than expected :SCollapse )
Yes, I know, it's been ages and I'm probably the only one who even remembers that at some point I started a challenge called "30 Days of Writing" but I recently permanently closed the Tumblr tab in my browser* and realized that I can't keep moaning that nothing ever happens on LJ anymore if I don't blog more than maybe once a month, either. So. Reviving a really old challenge. Maybe that'll get me back into blogging more regularly.

Anyway, let's start with a list of the thirteen questions I already answered:

Righty-o, lucky thirteen first.Collapse )

And now, roughly four years after the last post, the newest question:

Yes, research really does matter for me.Collapse )

*after a Sims 3 induced slight erm absence I realized that I did miss my Twitter feed, my Facebook timeline and definitely my LJ friends list. But I totally did not miss my Tumblr dashboard. I miss certain people (most of them those who came over from LJ to Tumblr and now stick to Tumblr) and so far I haven't deleted my Tumblr blog but I haven't reopened the tab, either and honestly: it makes me feel a lot better. But maybe I should keep the Tumblr related thinky thoughts for another post.

At long last: a new gardening posting \o/

Because all my ordered plants finally arrived last weekend (with bugs again, argh, fucking organic gardening companies, AAAAAAAAAAARGH), I realized it might really be time to show you what survived and what didn't and what I bought in April at Berliner Staudenmarkt (a plant market at Berlin Botanical Gardens that takes place annually in April and September) and what finally arrived. Unfortunately, I couldn't show you the full progress of my seedlings from early Spring because the SD card with the pictures on it mysteriously disappeared. Alas. Here we are.

Plants, plants, plants. (picture heavy, not dial-up friendly)Collapse )

After all these years...

I might finally get the Star Wars movie I've been waiting for. I just looked it up again, it's been nine fucking years since I started writing the Jenna's War stories about a group of Rebel infantry soldiers and nine years since I started to get a bit tired of Jedi and bounty hunters (oh God I just really fucking hate bounty hunters I never want to see another bounty hunter on a screen ever again I just really fucking hate them) and maybe even my beloved pilots and started to wish for a Star Wars movie or live action TV series (anyone remember how this was the big thing in those years?) that would show us the nitty gritty really ugly side of a guerilla war IN SPACE and OMG, we might finally be getting it and I'm close to weeping with joy, especially after this quote by Gareth Edwards, the director:

Edwards underscored that the film is aiming for realism, and that it's a no-holds-barred war picture. "It's the reality of war. Good guys are bad. Bad guys are good. It's complicated, layered; a very rich scenario in which to set a movie."

I was absolutely ecstatic when I saw the newest Star Wars teaser trailer (TBH, I wasn't really convinced that Episode VII might become a good movie but the teaser nudged me more in the direction of being hopeful instead of pessimistic) but OMG, those news about Rogue One made me jump with joy. Which is why I'm naturally absolutely pessimistic about it since I have been disappointed enough times to know where this might potentially lead (I fully expect to be pelted with bounty hunters and Jedi left and right, despite Edwards being emphatic about not having any Jedi in the movie). But anyway. Let's keep our fingers crossed for a genuine war movie IN SPACE and Rebel infantry soldiers with names (Madine doesn't count since he never really was infantry :P).

Summary: It's a cold February night in Milwaukee for Evan Lorne and Laura Cadman. Time for some hard truths.
A/N: Alright, this one was being a little bitch at times and I'm not sure if I nailed it but yeah, that is, so far, the final part and maybe I can finally concentrate on some of the other fics I still need to write and/or finish. As always, I'd love to hear what you think!

Gardening season just started \o/

Because I just had my first seeding session (no pictures yet because it would just be soil in pots which doesn't sound particularly exciting if you ask me). I put the following into soil:

Let's see what comes out of it. (see what I did there? Gnehehehe! Sorry.)

Next step will be scrubbing out those pots that had bugs or fungi last year and get more soil, also try to find the sees for those fancy basil variants I had last year and those for the bee friendly flowers. Also get strawberry seeds, and maybe eggplants (apparently, eggplants actually flourish better in containers than in the garden in our climate?) and wait for the plants I ordered to arrive. Oooh, I'm so excited, I hope at least some of the plants I seeded today make it to adulthood! Oh, oh, oh, also thyme, curry plant and lavender really do seem to have survived the winter because all of them are growing new leaves since I took them off the balcony and put them in my kitchen winter. That marks a first! I never even managed to get either of those plants through the summer, let alone a winter. I'm so happy to see them flourish, especially the thyme! Oh, also, the strawberry mint plant I thought was dead apparently managed to produce very tiny off-shoots. Maybe it survived the winter after all.

Summary: It's a quiet night at Milwaukee Fire Department's Engine 12 fire house. Time for confessions and another Springsteen ballad.
A/N: Honestly? I loved writing this one. I have a thing for late night conversations and for slow dancing, and I guess it was only a question of time until I go and combine the two, yet again. Also, this was supposed to be the last part in the firefighters!AU but then things (namely: bunnies) happened and it became a four parter and then other things happened and yeah no, for the time being, this is going to stay a four parter. But yeah, one day far in the future, I might tell mackenziesmomma to release that Ronon/Keller bunny that assaulted me two nights ago and you'll get that one, too. Anyway. Here you go!

Spring crafting, round one.

So, winter is (meteorologically speaking) over (probably not for you guys in the US Mid-West and East Coast, huh?) which means: new decoration at Casa de Gila \o/ I wasn't quite sure if I wanted to make yet another door wreath but last weekend, I finally had a last minute idea for a wreath and dragged Mom to the craft store (don't worry, Mom loves shopping for crafting supplies!). Where I found almost everything except the right kind of satin ribbon. I mean, I did find satin ribbon but apparently, 6m (and a width of 2cm) of ocean green isn't nearly enough for a standard wreath styrofoam ring... long story short, on Monday I bought 14m of 5cm width turquoise satin ribbon and now I have about 10m left, so if anyone has an idea what to do with it, I'm open for suggestions.

Anyway, this is what I did the last two days:

Wreath me up, baby! (yep, picture heavy, totally not dial-up friendly)Collapse )

Next project will be cross stitch flowers to hang on our windows, so I'll try to keep you posted?
